My goal is to reach 8% bodyfat by August 1, 2009, though I will be happy with 10%.  Ultimately, I think I would like to be at 6% bodyfat… that will be hard to reach and maintain, but I can do it.

• Simplicity: Possibly the most important part of creating the best flag football offense is keeping it simple enough that everyone on your team knows exactly what they are supposed to do.
• Plays:  Teams that are too lazy to draw up their plays inevitably end up screwing up in crunch time.  The best flag football offenses use few cards with their plays drawn and labelled clearly.
• Execution:  Each player must crisply run his routes according to plan in order for a play to pull a defense apart.
• Calm: Easier said than done, but if the team that can remain composed and stick to its plan even when things get hairy or the team is losing has a big advantage.

Below are a couple of plays that I have drawn up that I have seen the best flag football offenses run.  The plays  involve taking advantage of pulling a wide receiver behind the quarterback’s yard line in order to utilize him as a second QB.  If the primary quarterback is unable to spot an open receiver, he can throw it back to the second quarterback who may then either run or throw.  The play basically gets an extra 3-6 seconds of valuable lifetime.  This first play below will destroy man defenses and provide some openings against a zone defense.

Good flag football play for beating the standard zone or man defenses that you will see.

I have another play that the best flag football offenses run primarily against zone defenses below. This one puts tons of wide receivers on one side of the field in order to overload the few guys who are sitting in their zones.

At the end of the game (which we dominated), a player on the opposing team looked up at me as he was about to hike the ball to his quarterback and flatly said, “Cheater”.  Not sure how I was cheating with two refs watching… I think some guys just don’t know how to handle losing gracefully.

Utah went undefeated, winning 13 straight games.  Utah beat 4 ranked teams.  Utah beat Michigan in the Big House.  Utah beat #12 TCU.  Utah beat #14 BYU.  Utah crushed Alabama (who was ranked #1 in the nation for five straight games).  Florida went to the national championship game by virtue of beating Alabama… after trailing ‘bama six minutes into the 4th quarter.  Utah put up 21 points on Alabama in the first quarter. Utah is the only undefeated team this year and deserves the title of “National Champions”.

Why did Utah not play in the national championship game?  Because there is no playoff system in college football.  Instead a computer formula using esoteric math to rank the top teams and assign them their final standings.  For a sport who’s motto is “Settle it on the gridiron”, this is a travesty.

Why are we stuck with the BCS system instead of a playoff?  Greedy big-college athletic directors and the people who run the bowl games have an anti-competitive MONOPOLY.  They make billions of dollars while paying their workers/athletes nothing.  College football is supposed to be ameteur but it is anything but: most games are televised and receive tens of billions of dollars in TV contracts.  Major college football teams regularly sell out their stadiums for every game, bringing billions more dollars in revenue.  For “student-athletes”, football is not a game, it’s a full time job.  No player is compensated for his time, injuries or effort.

President-Elect Barack Obama has said that he wants to change the college football BCS system.  I suggest that he starts by having the Justice Department investigate the NCAA and the BCS for anti-trust violations, as well as violations of labor laws.

As a football fan, I am rapidly losing my interest in college football because it is not interesting anymore to have a big debate each year over which team belongs in the BCS and because the greed of big colleges and abuse of student-athletes does not sit right with my conscience.

Steve Sarkasian as the UW Huskies new football coach would be a great hire.  Steve Sarkisian has been USC’s offensive coordinator for the last two seasons and knows how to bring a winning attitude to a team.  The UW Husky football team has played atrociously this year and having Steve Sarkisian come to UW as the new football coach will hopefully turn the program around.

Steve Sarkasian is a very young man, only 10 years older than me, and will be holding a great responsibility over many college football players lives and will make at least a couple of million dollars per year.  Steve Sarkasian attended BYU for college and was the team’s starting quarterback and received many honors.  He finished his senior season with a 13-1 record.  During his senior year at BYU, Steve Sarkasian had a 173.6 passer rating which was the best in the NCAA.  Steve Sarkasian went on to playing in the CFL for three seasons before becoming a coach.  For the last two years he has been the offensive coordinator for the USC Trojans.  Steve Sarkasian is partially responsible for the amazing development of Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart (both won Heisman’s) as he was the quarterbacks coach in 2002 and 2003.

Steve Sarkasian is talented enough to be a great coach for the University of Washington Huskies.  My hope is that Steve Sarkasian comes to the UW and stays here for a long time as head football coach and perhaps even leads the University of Washington football team to a national championship.  Perchance to dream.

Top 10 Best Teams in College Football

1. Alabama- undefeated against a very tough schedule. Deserves #1 spot for now.

2. Florida- After a 1 point loss at Mississippi, these guys have been playing better than even Alabama.

3. USC- 3 shut out wins. 384 points for and only 83 points against.  A 1 TD loss.  Best players in the country.

4. Texas- Only loss came in the last couple seconds against the current #2 team in the country.  Good team.

5.  Oklahoma- Unstoppable offense and a decent defense with their only loss coming at Texas.

6.  Texas Tech- I know they beat Texas, but they have had a weak schedule and have only done OK.

7. Georgia- They got thumped by Florida & Alabama, but they could beat any other team under the 7th rank.

8. Utah-  Poor play and small wins against shoddy opponents put this undefeated team deep in the Top 10.

9. Oklahoma State- Only 2 losses come against the top 2 teams in the country at the time.

10. Penn State- They may be 9-1 but it’s against Big-10 teams.  Big-10 should be in the Division 2.

BCS Top 10 College Football Teams End of 2008 Season Predictions

1. Florida- Alabama will lose to Florida on Dec. 6th.

2. Oklahoma- Texas Tech will lose to Oklahoma in two days on November 22.

3. Texas- Mack Brown is going to be angry when he missed the national title game.

4. USC- USC might be better than Florida or Oklahoma, but the BCS standings won’t show it.

5. Alabama- late season loss will drop them to the 5th position.

6. Texas Tech- late season loss to Oklahoma will drop them down here.

7. Utah- I think they can beat BYU in the season finale.

8. Penn State- Paterno will beat Michigan State to end the regular season.

9. Ohio State- Garbage team (OSU) vs garbage team (Michigan) in the finale.

10. Boise State- Going undefeated versus easy opponents is not impressive.
Well now we just wait and see if I am as good at predicting college football as I am at predicting economic changes.  Anyone care to agree or disagree with my predictions?
