Dell XPS One Hard Drive Failure

My primary work machine, a Dell XPS One, had it’s hard drive fail today.

I called Dell to talk about a return and they told me to call back later because THEIR systems were down.

Doesn’t inspire much confidence.

  1. Dude that sucks. I’ve been using Dells for almost 10 years, and never had any issue until my last couple machines. Seems like the quality is going downhill. I almost went Macbook Air for my last purchase but still can’t bring myself to make the switch.

  2. Always always use a RAID array for your primary work machine or server. No matter what the rest of the hardware you’re using, a failing hard drive is the one thing that you can’t recover (barring regular backups)

  3. Nick – yeah dell’s quality has gone way down hill. I think it has to do with Michael Dell trying to get the stock price down for his buyout.

Peter – Good point. I actually keep everything on the cloud which protects me pretty well (Google Docs).
