Devil’s Swimming Pool – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
The Devil’s Swimming Pool is located in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and has become a hot destination for global adventurers. During the months of September and December, eager travelers can venture out to the very edge of the 128 meteer tall waterfall and swim around. Takes a big pair to go play here. Scroll down to the bottom to watch the video on how some truly nuts people play at the Devil’s Swimming Pool.

The man in this picture at the Devil’s Swimming Pool looks pretty anxious… I would be too if I was sticking my head and arms off a massive waterfall like he is.

“Daddy, Daddy, Let me look over the edge…. AAAAAAaaaaaa……” haha

Crazy man to be doing this with three or four hundred feet of waterfall in front of him.

Naptime at the Devil’s Swimming Hole.

Funnest family vacation of all time.

Now imagine not only swimming in the Devil’s Swimming Pool… But actually doing cannonballs into it right at the edge of the waterfall!!! In this video, some crazy men jump into Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and land right close to the edge of the falls.

Yeah, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe Africa looks pretty amazing! I would love to go visit sometime. The Devil’s Swimming Hole would be one heck of a trip!

I am curious as to why the force of the water isn’t actually pushing these keen tourists over the edge? Am i missing something? But it doesn’t look pretty awesome!!

The picture under “Daddy, Daddy…” shows why you don’t go over: there’s a calm pool behind a rock wall, and only a thin sheet of water goes over the top. Your body has more friction than the water can break. I wouldn’t try this when covered with suntan lotion, or let a child up there. Not to mention the fact that a rainstorm miles upstream could potentially send a surge of water down the river, washing you over with no warning at all. Here in the US, you can bet they’d outlaw going in there!

That may be true Howard… but at least there is someplace in this world that you can! I would love to do that!

Found you via stumbleupon and hmmm . . . not sure if I would be swimming there! Interesting photos!

that rain water surge howard mention must be part of why it’s the devil’s swimming pool, no?
on another note, it makes me think of the people who live on fault lines, people who live between two active volcanos in colima, mexico, people who live in hurricane zones, or whatever:

Swimming in it? In this YouTube video this guy does a cannon ball into the pool.

A flash flood is one concern…I’d also be worried about erosion! With that much water hitting that pool, I’d be concerned that the whole rock wall would give at some point. Water is a powerful beast!

Sorry, this may be fun at the moment but one little slip is all it takes to send you over the cliff with the water. These people are nuts.

Great pictures! I can’t imagine standing there – just the thought of being on the precipice gives me the heebee jeebees!
I found this video of a helicopter ride over an active Volcano in the Caribbean. Now this sounds like something I could do!

I hope someone is holding onto the feet of those people hanging over the edge!

God you can only imagine the conversations these people have when they get back home!! Oh it was soooo great, ammmmmazing. My attitude in my middle management position has changed so much since I visited the Falls. Oh Cassandra you must go its awesome.

I want to go in the summer. Are proper conditions to swim at the very edge only available in September and December? Does anybody know?

I dream of visiting this destination one day. I love waterfalls and this would be the ultimate waterfall experience. But, I want that whole romantic theme to go with it and I’m currently single and searching.

Its really not that scary, just dont do anything stupid. Heaps of people go around the pools although i did have a close call as the stepping stones were washed away!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:25 am
holy damn, that’s totally stupid… that little ledge might get washed away…
July 15th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Yeah, it does look pretty dangerous… just imagine if a small dam or something gave way upriver…
August 1st, 2008 at 10:28 am
Nuts!!! Nuts!!! Nuts!!!

You gotta be willing to take the risk of life. Yes a small dam could give way, yes erosion may some day take it’s toll, yes you could very well have a coronary embolism in the next 5 minutes and be dead in the sixth. Death is a part of living. Take the risk, do things that push your limits…. enjoy LIFE!!!

This is like rock climbing. Try to not do things where you only get one mistake. It’s the secret to a long life.
