I read an excellent article in the New York Times today and I highly recommend that anyone remotely interested in the state of the world, American politics, globalization and the balance of power read it.

The article is pretty long, but well worth the time. I don’t agree with all of the authors assertions or conclusions, but he is very much on the right path. If you care for anything beyond your own personal misery, take a few minutes and read it.

  1. I read the article and would have to agree that we are sinking quickly. At best we can resurrect ourself as a secondary player that manages to avoid any ill will or harmful attention from the top tier countries. The fundamental structure of American society and its political mechanisms will be its downfall. American voters aren’t willing to sacrifice social programs or standards of living in exchange for competitive edge globally. So while we cling to $7.50 an hour and everything else, we’ll become irrelevant.

  2. Americans will be forced to sacrifice our social programs after our economy crashes. The situation will quickly turn desperate and we will rapidly lose all of our high expectations in our desperate fight for survival.
