Last night the weekly dinner crew headed out to go to an ethiopian restaurant named Waid’s in the Central District of Seattle. However, Waid’s was closed for Presidents Day, so Plato led Ian, Diane, Tara and I on to a different destination: La Isla.

La Isla is a small Puerto Rican restaurant in Ballard, WA. Plato had been there before and said it had some great Caribbean food and our group is all about trying new things, so we headed over. La Isla is located on the corner of 24th and Market in Ballard and does not have much seating inside. When we arrived, every table was taken so we all ordered mojitos and sat in the corner for around five minutes till a table large enough to accomodate our group became available. The mojitos at La Isla were freshly made with mint and lime- quite tasty.

Our group ordered a large quantity of food and purposely made sure everyone ordered something different so we could taste everything La Isla had to offer. I ordered the catfish, Ian had the chicken, Plato had the pork, Diane had the pasta and Tara ordered a vegetarian dish. We also ordered the plate of mixed appetizers and the plate of mixed plaintains. All of the food was good, but the best dishes at La Isla were definitely the pasta (a little sweet, but full of cheesy goodness) and the chicken. Prices were about average for the Seattle area- two mojitos, an entree and splitting appetizers will leave you with a bill around $35 without tip.

Would I visit La Isla again? Yes. Would I recommend La Isla? Yes!

Other info on La Isla Seattle: They claim to be the only Puerto Rican restaurant in Washington State. From 10pm to midnight Monday through Saturday, you can buy their very good mojitos for only $2 apiece.

La Isla’s address is 2320 NW Market Street Seattle, Washington 9810 and their phone number is 206-789-051.
