Menstrual Period Sex

A few stuffy people may consider my following post on having sex during a woman’s menstrual period to be gross.  The rest of you will find it a high-minded intellectual discourse on oral sex’s favorite dish.

The first question that comes to mind for many people is whether or not period sex is safe.  Let me firmly reassure you that despite the sexist claims of many silly religions, science has shown that having sex during a woman’s mentstrual period is not only safe, but it can actually be beneficial.  Many women find that period sex reduces pain and cramps, but only if they actually orgasm.  An orgasm during period sex causes the uterus to contract and use up excess prostaglandins, which are hormones produced by the lining of the uterus.  Prostaglandins help get rid of menstrual blood by causing cramps.

One very important note: as always, use protection when engaging in period sex.  You should use protection to not only reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, but also to reduce the risk of pregnancy.  Although there is no egg available to be fertilized and no uterine lining for an embryo to implant properly on, sperm can live for three days in the female reproductive system.  Also, ovulation sometimes causes bleeding that is mistaken for a menstrual period and during ovulation women are extremely fertile.

My main idea in writing my post on menstrual sex was not to address the scientific issues, but rather the social ones.  I think it is extremely unfortunate that superstitious sexist societies worldwide have demonized women’s menstrual cycles.  All the women I have dated have been extremely self-conscious about the issue and can barely even talk about it.  I know many men who refuse to have sex with a woman when she is on her period.  The sad thing is is that period blood is a bodily fluid that every woman produces and is no more disgusting than a man’s sperm.  Sperm has been glorified by society’s worldwide while menstrual blood is seen as unclean and vile and something to be ashamed of.  Early Christians even believed that menstrual pain and cramps was God’s punishment on women for Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden.

By not addressing the superstitious and sexist beliefs about having women’s menstrual cyles and period sex, many so-called “liberated” women have made a huge mistake.  I know that society makes it more difficult for a woman to talk about these issues than for men to talk about it, but that courage could help rid humanity of another ridiculous myth that has been a scourge on history.  Women in many countries (especially in Africa and the Middle East) are still considered to not be worth as much as a man and fighting the vestiges of superstitions at home will help open a larger dialogue on women’s rights worldwide.

So join me in fighting sexism and lay down a couple of towels and have some dirty fun period sex!

This is a very weird topic for you to write about, Joel. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that this doesn not make any sense:

“Many women find that period sex reduces pain and cramps, but only if they actually orgasm. An orgasm during period sex causes the uterus to contract and use up excess prostaglandins, which are hormones produced by the lining of the uterus. Prostaglandins help get rid of menstrual blood by causing cramps.”

What that really means is that an orgasm during “period sex” can cause more cramps – and possibly a shorter period. (if you still don’t get it just re-read the last sentence)

You are so bizarre why did you write about this????

I like to pick unique topics sometimes… even if they are rather strange. Makes it more fun for me to write and for people to read.

As for the Prostaglandins bit… that’s what my research on other sites told me. I think that they mean that the pleasant actual actions of sex end up using those hormones instead of painful cramps.

    Still doesn’t make sense, Joel.

Your article said that prostaglandins cause cramps.

    One of my sources was:
    http://www.epigee.org/menstruation/sex.html

scroll down to “Does Sex Help to Manage Period Pains?”

“Many women find that sexual intercourse actually helps to relieve period pains and menstrual cramps. This is because an orgasm can cause your uterus to contract, enabling it to use up excess prostaglandins in the process. Prostagladins are hormones produced by your uterine lining. They help to stimulate contractions that move menstrual blood out of the uterus, and are also responsible for those cramps that occur throughout your period.”

    Here’s the key then

“This is because an orgasm can cause your uterus to contract, enabling it to use up excess prostaglandins in the process. ”

Orgasms use up the prostaglandins doing another action (contracting) rather than the painful cramping.

I especially appreciated your “high-minded intellectual discourse on oral sex’s favorite dish”. Makes me shudder with anticipation.

Or somehow hoping to increase the number of people who have attempted or practiced this delicious dining experience, thereby making him less freakish.

    I agree with you completely.

I love giving my gf orgasms during her period. It makes her feel so much better.

She says period pain before orgasm is 8, and a 2 after. Best thing is she says the pain doesn’t come back(until next period).

So period sex all the way. ;)
