The year 1700 AD was a strange one: A mob in London lining both sides of the road whipped every woman who passed by. If a woman was accompanied by her husband he was forced to ride on her back while the crowd whipped his mount. The year 1700 AD also saw the death of Charles II, the final Habsburg king of Spain. His family was so inbred that he was barely able to speak or walk and was severely mentally retarded and constantly sickly. He also had a lower jaw that far outgrew the upper and a tongue so huge that he dribbled continuously. Good guy to have leading your country, right?
