Snow Lake Hiking Trip at Snoqualmie WA

I recently joined the Seattle Mountaineers at the behest of my grandma (Bestemor) and on Saturday I went on my first hike with the organization. The Seattle Mountaineers have tons of events going on all the time, about 20-30 per day, so there are lots of options. I found a relatively easy hike that was close to Seattle and had a late start time (11 am) so I could go out the night before. The hike that I picked was up to Snow Lake by Snoqualmie, WA. One strange thing I noticed about the Snow Lake hiking trip posting on the Seattle Mountaineer website was that it was under the ‘singles’ category… but I didn’t really think about it.

I woke up a bit late on the morning of Saturday, August 16 2008, and had about fifteen minutes to eat something, throw my clothes on and grab a bag. In my rush to get out the door, I even forgot to pack a lunch lol. After driving about an hour east on I-90 I arrived at the Snow Lake trailhead and met the group of people I was going with. Our group was being led by a married man named Ken Levine, but the rest of the group was older single women. Now I had to worry about two kinds of hunting cougars haha… actually everyone on the trip was pretty cool and I had a great time hanging out with them. They were probably a tad disappointed that the singles hike they had signed up for only had one single guy (and a decade or two their junior), but I think that all of us primarily just wanted to enjoy the hike.

The entire hike up to Snow Lake was absolutely gorgeous. I really recommend it to anyone in Seattle who is bored and wants to get some fresh air. You simply go up to the Alpental Ski area on Snoqualmie Pass and the trailhead leaves from the Alpental parking lot. The Snow Lake hiking trip can probably be done in 3 hours if you just wanted to hike in to the lake and back out and you are in great shape, but I recommend going a bit slower and bringing a lunch with you. Perhaps even try taking a dip in the ice cold Snow Lake itself! When I was there, there was still snow on the ground and in the lake, but some people still dove in.

Below are some more photos from my trip. I brought my new iPhone- it is so convenient for everything I need. Love it.

If you get the chance, I recommend that you visit Snow Lake too! It’s a relatively easy hike with a beautiful view to enjoy and a crystal clear mountain lake to swim in.
