Survival of the Fittest

I just read a ten page story in the New York Times debating the environmental ethics surrounding a bird-watcher who killed a feral cat. Most environmental ethicists cited claimed that it was right to kill the feral cat, because it was a species unnaturally introduced into the environment.

That line of reasoning is complete bullshit. The most “natural” way is to just let things happen. Let the world change continuously, which it has always done, and adjust accordingly. Survival of the fittest. You think the dinosaurs were worried about conserving other species? Hell no, T Rex ate everything he could and polluted the environment all he wanted with titanic poops. The natural processes that brought about the extinction of Mr. T Rex didn’t care about him either. I say we focus solely on our own survival. That means moving off planet before we get blown away by a single asteroid or tough disease or nuclear war.

I know you’re going to say that human survival is reliant upon maintaining the environment and that line of reasoning is partially correct. Humans should evolve as well though to meet the new challenges brought by nature. And I don’t think that a few birdies dying is going to kill us. As long as we can produce wheat, beef, clean water and heat, we’ll be alright. So screw you, tree hugger, I’m going to drive my super-sized McHummer right up your ass.

  1. I read an article called “Give War a Chance” where the author argued that we have so many running problems with genocide, ethnic conflict, racism, territorial disputes, and more because of the existence of organizations like the UN and NATO that force people to come to peaceful resolution prematurely. Instead, the ceasefires give them an opportunity to rearm and then reconvene their conflict. Allow war to run its course and one side wins and one loses. It is a much cleaner result.

  2. Hahaha… brilliant. Let the genocide run it’s route and when an entire race of people is dead, we don’t have to worry about war anymore, right? ;) Seriously, I partially agree. I think the UN shouldn’t just go in as peacekeeper or policing forces, they should conquer and take over and set up their own government rather than deal with criminals.
