The Powerful Male Sex Drive

Am I talking about a powerful male’s sex drive or a powerful sex drive in a male?  Actually, this post will discuss a little of both from my perspective.

The male sex drive is an intense feeling that drives many men to do things that range from insane to great to awful to silly.  So how does the male sex drive actually feel?  It’s difficult to describe, but I’ll give it my best shot and perhaps other men can correct me in the comments.  The feeling associated with the male sex drive can be anywhere from virtually nothing all the way up to a white hot controlling desire that will not allow anything else to the forefront of the human mind.  Sometimes your sex drive can trick you into thinking it is something else.  For instance, if you are a dating a woman you haven’t slept with, you can mistake it for love (when it’s really just lust).  Many of my Christian friends married very young because of this phenomenon.  Or it can come across as hate; something may be bothering you and you blow it way out of proportion because you are under the influence of the powerful male sex drive.  For many examples of this, look at the terrorists in Egypt: most of them are young men who cannot have sex because of their religion and cannot marry because of their economy.  These young Egyptian males have powerful biological sex drives, but no outlets for it, so they become easily involved in violence and extremist beliefs.

To even better describe how the powerful male sex drive feels, I like to compare it to holding your breath.

Take a deep breath and hold it for 20 seconds.  You kind of want to breathe right?  That’s about how men with powerful male sex drives feel most of the time.

Now take another breath and hold it for 30-40 seconds.  That is the feeling that comes from the male sex drive after a couple of days of no release.

Try holding your breath again this time for 50-60 seconds.  You really want to breathe now right?  Welcome to being a man who has gone a week or so with no play.

The final example is holding your breath for 90 seconds.  The pressure and burning desire to breathe you feel is how men feel who have never had a woman or haven’t had a girlfriend for some time and don’t believe in other forms of release.

Perhaps my example was a little bit graphic, but I tried to use an innocent activity to simulate what can many times be a very, very powerful feeling.  I should also mention that men don’t feel the powerful male sex drive all of the time- it comes and goes in waves.  The waves generally increase in frequency the longer time that has passed.

Men, you are now asking why I am describing something so fundamental that everyone knows about it.

The powerful male sex drive can be a very intense desire at times.

Women, if you are still reading and not too grossed out, you are probably fascinated by how crazy men are.  So why did I write on this topic?  It is very important for people to recognize the effects of such a powerful desire in men and it’s effects upon the world at large.  The male sex drive sometimes is described as the primary motivator of men: whether they are building skyscrapers, going to war, working at a career or buying fancy cars.

Every religion I have ever heard of specifically addresses biological sex drives and most of the major ones lay down rules restricting the amount of sex a man or woman may have.  I believe that these rules were originally incorporated to capture some of that intensely powerful desire and fan its flame and try to twist it to motivate men to accomplish the ends desired by the religion.  The two religions that have done this the most are Islam and Christianity, and due to the efforts of their followers, those two religions now enjoy more followers than any other global religion.  Further evidence is offered by the fastest growing religion on earth, the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons).  Mormons have even more severe restrictions on the sexual appetities of its followers than Christianity or Islam.

Almost every major army in the history of mankind has consisted entirely of men.  Why?  Because generals wisely want to capture the powerful motivating force that is the natural male sex drive to do their bidding.  It’s awfully hard to make men march 20 miles a day if they are having tons of great sex.  Men are also much less likely to be violent if they are finding regular sexual release.  I have read several studies of men in various settings that all come to that conclusion.  Lack of sex greatly increases violence.

I have observed the effects of misplaced (and sometimes correctly placed) sex drives in many people around me.  One friend told me he was starting to lose interest in sex… but that he was now working 7 days a week at least 10 hours a day.  Several people I know have gone back again and again to women they don’t like because they give up control of their mental faculties to their powerfule male sex drives.  It takes a strong will to stick to such decisions when everything inside of you is fighting your decision.

I have also noticed a direct correlation between the amount of time two people hold out from having sex, and the amount that they THINK that they like each other.  Oftentimes, after they start sleeping together regularly, they find they didn’t really like the person at all, but were blinded by their powerful desires.  It’s really unfortunate when this happens after they have gotten married.  I know too many people, especially among the religious folk, who have followed this pattern.  It’s really sad and leads to lots of marital strife throughout one’s life.

The most stable, laid-back guys I know are those men who have found a direct outlet for their powerful male sex drives.  Usually this is a long-term girlfriend/wife or a man who has a series of women at his fingertips.  I don’t like that our society is so judgemental about talking about such topics openly, but I will respect people’s privacy and not further elaborate on my observations here.

Women seem to have a powerful sex drive as well, but most women that I talk to about it are fairly reserved about expressing such feelings and since I can never be a woman myself, I will never know exactly how their sex drive feels and compares to how men feel.  Ladies, if you have any analogies like my holding your breath description, please feel free to share in the comments.  I am curious to know what you think of my post and how you would express your own female sex drive.
