Work

Most people complain about their job, but it seems like having a job is pretty important to giving people meaning and purpose in their lives.

Going on vacation for a few days is a great feeling, but not having work on a daily basis longer than that is depressing. People who are long term unemployed or retired have much higher rates of depression than those who work.

For me, I am much happier working long hours on my business than I ever was in college when I had huge amounts of leisure time.  I was even surprised to find after my month of traveling and working in Europe that I am more happy putting in my ten to twelve hour days here at my business than I was on what most people would consider a dream vacation.

Facing the ongoing challenge of working provides much more purpose than free time does and leads to a happier and more consistent existence.
